Rio Gardeners

Fish and Forest
The
river gardeners project emerged in 2016 with the aim of studying the interactions between frugivorous fish and the fruits of the riparian forest in the Tapajós basin. And, one of the main objectives is to integrate the University with the community, represented by schools in the municipal and state education network, through lectures on ecology and conservation and actions to plant forest seedlings obtained from seeds originating from the gastrointestinal tract of frugivorous fish from the Teles River. The lectures will address the importance of preserving and conserving water bodies, riparian forests and the ecological interactions between fish and plants in these environments.

In this project that involves research and extension actions, our mascot is the briquinho, the species Brycon falcatus , the main frugivore (fruit eater) in the Teles Pires river basin.
